Correcting the Record on ADHD, with Dr. Gary Bullock

ADHD diagnoses have been rising for decades, and some data suggest there’s been an additional increase since the pandemic began. A recent analysis from the health records company Epic found that 0.6% of the millions of US patients in it’s database were diagnosed with ADHD in 2022, compared to about 0.4% in 2019.

What’s causing the rise in diagnoses? More acceptance of the condition among the public, as well as better testing protocols have had a two-fold affect.

Gary Bullock, DO, MPH has spent the last 21 years as a family physician. He has since pivoted his practice to coaching medical providers with ADHD.

It was during his own intensive care rotation that his attending physician noticed a dichotomy of intense interest in learning medicine but not so much the pecking order of residents his own age. Between blurting out an intuitive correct diagnosis on a perplexing patient, and then losing his pen, it seemed logical to get tested for ADHD. Not wanting to deal with the stigma of the diagnosis, he chose not to deal with it, but instead just work harder.
